Our hands are something we constantly depend on yet somehow take the least care off. In this difficult time, our hands have definitely taken a hit what with the numerous rounds of washing our hands. Somewhere in that process, we lost out on soft hands, instead we are sporting hands that are on their way to showcase early signs of aging. With all the new tasks at hand, we’re sure yours could do with a little more pampering and care.
We’ve curated a few tricks to help you out. Take a look at your guide to soft hands!
Choose a Nourishing Soap
Most commercial soaps are packed with chemicals that dry out your skin and multiple rounds of washing your hands with them can only damage your skin. Instead, choose a soap with natural ingredients that nourishes your skin while cleansing it.
Hydrate Your Hands
Multiple rounds of washing your hands will strip it of its natural moisture and hydration. Hydrating your hands through the day will make sure to help keep your hands soft and nourished. Aloe Vera Gel is great for this since its non-sticky texture is perfect for your all day hydration. After washing your hands, take a small scoop of aloe vera gel and massage it into your hands for an instant burst of hydration and nourishment.
Wash Your Hands with Lukewarm Water
Very cold or hot water dries out your skin. Make sure to wash your hands with lukewarm water so as to avoid your hands from becoming dry and rough. Opting to use lukewarm water will help keep your hands soft and smooth.
Keep The Moisture Locked In At Night
After a long day where your hands have taken the brunt of everything, a deep moisturisation is exactly what they need and the best time to do that is at night when you are sleeping and your hands have a chance to rest. The best way to do this is with a deeply moisturising product like Shea Butter or Petroleum Jelly. Take a small scoop of the product and massage it all over your hands. Put on a pair of cotton gloves to cover up your hands and then go to bed. Rinse off your hands in the morning once you wake up. These ingredients make sure any moisture stays locked in, taking you one step closer to soft hands.
Remember To Exfoliate
Just like the rest of your body, the skin on your hands needs to be exfoliated as well so that dry, dead skin can be sloughed off and make way for soft skin. We’ve got 2 simple DIY exfoliators that are so easy to whip up and use once a week.
- Sugar Lemon Scrub
Mix 1 tbsp of sugar, a few drops of lemon juice and a few drops of coconut or olive oil. Mix it well. Scrub this all over your hands and fingers before rinsing off and applying your favourite moisturiser.
- Oatmeal Scrub
Mix 1 tbsp oatmeal with a few drops of oil and a little milk. Mix it well and apply it all over your hands. Leave the mixture on for 20 minutes before you start massaging and scrubbing the paste all over your hands. Rinse off and follow up with your favourite moisturiser. You can even replace the moisturiser with a few drops of oil.
Avoid Direct Contact With Harsh Chemicals
When indulging in various chores that expose your hands to chemicals or any other harsh ingredients, make sure to protect them by wearing rubber gloves before washing dishes or cleaning the house etc.
Nightly Pamper Sessions
During the day your hands just won’t stop. Be it from working and doing various chores to scrolling through your phone, your hands hardly get a minute to rest. That’s why the best time to pamper them is at night. Apply all your deep moisturisers etc right before going to bed and let them work their magic all night without any interruptions.
Our hands are the first place that showcases signs of ageing. It is high time we took care of them properly, keeping them healthy and beautiful.
